III. What You Should Know About Philadelphia Therapy

How are Philadelphia therapists licensed?

Pennsylvania’s State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors administers licensure for LPCs in Philadelphia. Licensure requires completion of a 60 semester-hour degree in counseling or a closely related field with a 100-hour practicum and 600-hour internship. Master’s degree graduates must complete 3,000 hours of supervised counseling experience, and doctoral degree graduates must complete 2,400 with 1,200-plus hours post-degree. All applicants must pass the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification.

How much does therapy cost in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia therapists usually charge per session, but per-session costs vary greatly. For the therapists listed, the cost of individual sessions lasting an average of 50 to 60 minutes ranges between $125 and $240.
