II. Best Therapists in Orlando, FL

The best Orlando therapist will be one you work well with and who provides quality care at a fair price. Online Therapy analyzed the top Orlando therapists and created this list of 14 well-rated options based on eight key factors, including credentials, specializations, availability, cost, and other fundamental features.

Choosing the Best Orlando, FL Therapists

Credentials

Credentials build trust, which is crucial in a therapeutic relationship. Therapists must earn mental health counseling licensure from the Florida Department of Health, which requires a master’s degree or higher in mental health counseling and 1,500 hours of post-degree supervised counseling experience over two years. They must also pass an exam.

Accessibility

Therapists usually have one or more specializations, making it easier to choose the right one for your needs. It’s also important to compare office hours to ensure they’re accessible during your required schedule. All the therapists listed offer remote services to better meet with clients with various scheduling needs.

Cost

Cost can be an obstacle, but your focus should primarily be on how much mental health assistance you’ll receive. To help alleviate budgeting concerns, check with your insurance provider to see if they cover mental health. Many therapists in Orlando also offer sliding fee scales that they don’t always advertise.

How are Orlando therapists licensed?

The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling requires licensure applicants to earn a master’s degree or higher in a mental health counseling program that consists of at least 60 semester hours. They must complete two years of supervised experience with at least 1,500 hours spent face-to-face with clients. Applicants must pass the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination developed by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

How much does therapy cost in Orlando?

The therapists listed charge per session with individual sessions costing $100 to $250, but the average per-session cost is $150. Typically, sessions last about 50 to 60 minutes, but longer sessions are available at higher fees. Remote services are often priced lower than in-person sessions.
