III. What You Should Know About Ann Arbor Therapy

How are Ann Arbor therapists licensed?

The Michigan Board of Counseling licenses professional therapists in Ann Arbor. Applicants must have a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling from a qualified 48 semester hour program. After obtaining their limited counselor license, master’s degree holders must complete 3,000 hours of supervised counseling experience, and doctoral degree holders must complete 1,500 hours. Upon completion, they must pass the National Board for Certified Counselors’ National Counselor Examination or the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification Examination.

How much does therapy cost in Ann Arbor?

Ann Arbor therapists have varying per-session rates, with individual counseling sessions costing $100 to $200 for an average of 50 minutes. Couple and family session rates are usually higher. Some therapists also charge more when working with children. About half the listed therapists offer a sliding fee scale.
