Leading Experts in the Field of Online Counseling and Therapy

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Telemental health has been around since the early 90s when the internet could support both audio and visual connections. Three decades in, clinicians are still fascinated with the opportunity to serve their clients with greater convenience and choice. The recent COVID pandemic made online counseling even more relevant as it provided a safe way for people to engage in therapy, whether through video, phone or texting.

With the increased reliance on teletherapy mandated by the pandemic, it’s likely that many therapists will continue or build up their online practices. Unlike face-to-face therapy, however, telemental health comes with unique ethical, legal and logistical considerations, such as making sure the telecommunications platform you’re using is HIPPA compliant and figuring out how to best connect with clients through a screen.

Over the years, several leaders in the field have emerged and given direction, caution and instruction to therapists who want to introduce or grow an online practice. Below are some of the leaders and leading organizations in the field of telemental health.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Alex Alvarado was inspired to make a difference in the lives of young people after watching his family struggle to find an affordable and accessible therapist for his younger brother, who was diagnosed with depression in high school. Having worked in the field of digital healthcare, he believed that technology could be an important part of the solution for teen mental health. In January 2020 he co-founded Daybreak Health, an online mental health center that helps teens build emotional wellbeing through individual video therapy and a mobile app that provides mental and behavioral health tools.
