About Amber Boyd

I am an African-American, queer-identified woman, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I was born & raised in Oakland, this is a community that I am very passionate about! I want to provide services for the communities that I have been a part of and are the fabric of who I am as a person. I earned my bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley in Sociology with a minor in Education, and earned my master’s degree at Syracuse University in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of California and Texas. I have also been certified to conduct Telehealth Therapy. I want to dispel the myth that mental health is taboo, particularly for disenfranchised communities. In therapy, I like to explore the experienced oppression, differences, etc. I have had personal and professional experiences with the positive effects of therapy, and I would like to share this message with the different communities that I engage with. My goal is to support those who are struggling to find peace within themselves on a: mental, spiritual, physical level, intimate and platonic relationships, oppression, anxiety, and depression. My desire is to re-frame the importance of mental health and dismantle the narrative that mental health is taboo. I like to use an integrative, yet client-centered and affirming approach in the modalities of treatment. Relationship and trust are key factors in rapport both in my personal and professional life and it is how I approach therapy with clients.
