About Cortney Zeigler Ugalde

In our lives we can struggle as individuals and within our family systems, regardless of whether we are children, teens, or adults. I believe therapy is a way to take time to focus and challenge beliefs around the different stressors in each individual’s life. Stress is a part of everyday life, there is no way to avoid it. I believe that with empathy and therapeutic support individuals can face these stressors head on and work to improve their quality of life, inner strength, and happiness. Therapy should be a safe space to explore and challenge uncomfortable thoughts and feelings through compassion and empathy. As a counselor, I use empathy and compassion to assist with challenging unhelpful thought patterns that are keeping each individual stuck in a place of distress. I use a person-centered approach, CBT, DBT, play therapy techniques, and trauma informed modalities to assist individuals with developing skills to address and cope with stress in their life. I believe anyone (children, teens, adults) has the ability to create change within their lives to reduce the distress they are experiencing. It is my goal to use the therapeutic relationship as a safe space for change and growth.
