About Cheryl Gerson

I’ve been practicing individual psychotherapy, relationship counseling, and group therapy for over 28 years.  During that time I've been able to help couples make the difficult decision between separating and working to renew their relationships. Both choices are hard. We’re "hard-wired" to be in relationship, even though it sometimes seems impossible to keep going. Some people really need to separate, and with them, my goal is to find a way for them to do that without destroying what was once truly important to them. Many pairs have reached an impasse and are stuck, like the irresistible force and the immovable object. That can become explosive, but it’s not necessarily a reason to divorce.

With individual psychotherapy, I’m particularly interested in focusing on the client’s goals, whether for a specific problem or a life-long issue.

I’ve helped parents work out problems with their children, and counseled step-parents in how to manage the complicated relationships with their step-children.

I work with a number of people in Recovery, addressing the importance of having a full life without the addiction, and I’ve helped their family members learn to live their own lives successfully, whether with or without the addict.
