About Marsha Shapiro

Due to COVID-19, I am handling sessions via phone or secure video. Please call, 732-422-9400, to schedule an appointment. Thank you.

My practice offers a respectful, affirmative, confidential and safe environment in which clients can focus on improving the quality of their lives. I facilitate my clients in empowering themselves and increasing their sense of worthiness and self-esteem. Establishing a trusting, caring and nurturing relationship with the people who seek my help is of the utmost importance to me. I encourage clients to play an active role in establishing their own treatment plans. My clientele often refer their friends, co-workers and colleagues to my practice as a result of their own positive therapeutic journey.

For forty years, I have been providing psychotherapy, consultation and life coaching services, as well as, presenting workshops and seminars to schools, agencies, hospitals, corporations and organizations. I hold a number of professional certifications and have membership in several professional organizations. Additionally, I was a member of the Diversity Advisory Committe of the University of Pennsylvania School Of Social Work Practice And Policy.

I see Children, Adolescents and Adults utilizing Individual, Couple's, Family and Group treatment modalities. My areas of specialization include: Depression, Anxiety,PTSD, Phobias, Stress and Anger Management, Relationships, Parenting, Separation/Divorce, Adult Survivors of Incest/Sexual Abuse, Women's issues, Sexuality, LGBTQ  issues, Acute/Chronic Illness, Grief/Bereavement issues, Eating Disorders and other Compulsive Behaviors and Learning/Developmental challenges. I provide services to Vets, Military Personnel and their families and the Cop-To-Cop Program. Additionally, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing/Critical Incident Response is a function I am frequently called upon to perform.

As a trained, experienced EMDR practitioner I have had much success using this technique, along with traditional therapy, with people who are dealing with substance abuse or have experienced trauma at any time in their lives. I utilize an array of treatment approaches, depending upon the needs of my clients. When helpful, I incorporate music and poetry into my therapuetic style.
