About David Votruba

The individuals and couples with whom I work are generally interested in understanding and addressing not only certain specific, emergent problems such as those associated with adjustment and relationship difficulties, depression, and anxiety, but also the underlying thoughts, feelings, and behavioral and relational patterns that have contributed to the development of these emergent problems. Through a collaborative, empathic process, these individuals and couples are able to expand and utilize their skills, strengths, and self-understanding in order to live more meaningful and rewarding lives. I earned my MSW from the University of Michigan School of Social Work in 2002 and my PhD from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2008. I have completed extensive clinical training and practice experiences through the University of Michigan Psychological Clinic and the Michigan Psychoanalytic Institute Treatment Clinic. In addition to my private psychotherapy practice, I work part-time for the University of Michigan's Office of Student Conflict Resolution (Division of Student Affairs) where I develop and manage alcohol and other drug-related educational programming.
