About J. Oni Dakhari

Hi and I'm glad you are here! I know that searching for a therapist can feel a bit overwhelming and impersonal. I'll share a bit of my background to help us begin the process of figuring out if I could be a good match for your needs. I am a psychologist licensed to practice in New Jersey and Delaware. My expertise is within the subfields of clinical psychology and pediatric psychology. This means that I specialize in the assessment and treatment of individuals with behavioral and social-emotional challenges, learning difficulties and developmental delays, and chronic medical conditions. I believe that it is important for clients to build a strong and trusting relationship with their therapist. To help foster that growth I believe that therapists should be warm, genuine, and experienced. My journey toward becoming a psychologist that I hope can help you along your journey has included receiving my bachelor’s degree from Duke University and my doctoral degree from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology - during which time I trained at Grady Memorial Hospital as well as Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. I completed my psychology internship at the A. I. duPont Hospital for Children (AIDHC) as well as two additional years of postdoctoral specialization at AIDHC. I am committed to helping infants and children, adolescents and young adults, as well as parents and other family members. My professional experience has included service at various hospitals, behavioral health clinics, and specialty centers such as the respected Emory Autism Center. I have also participated in a NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health)-funded Asthma research project and have worked with children with a variety of health related challenges. I received training as a behavioral health consultant for Delaware’s statewide early intervention service program for infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities, served as an adjunct psychology professor, and co-authored an article on identifying Post Traumatic Stress in young children. I utilize an active and structured approach that is also compassionate and tailored to your needs. I continually work to share a variety of resources with you so that you can become increasingly informed in ways to support your growth or that of your family member. I strive to help clients so that they can learn skills and strategies to improve their social, emotional, and behavioral health and well-being. I greatly enjoy helping and teaching the children, parents, and professionals with whom I work and am also happy to consult with others involved in your care to help best support your needs.
