About John McRee

I have worked at regional mental health facilities over the past 10 years and at a psychiatric school for severely disturbed children and youth. I also worked with senior adults in a hospital aftercare program. Before becoming a professional counselor I was the Director of Children and Youth at my church for 15 years and Scoutmaster of a local Boy Scouts of America troop. I am a 4th degree Black Belt in TaeKwon Do and taught students martial arts at a school I began 30 years ago. The experience I gained throughout my life in the helping profession directs me in various ways as I offer professional counseling today. I trained at Delta State University, Delta Community Mental Health in Cleveland Mississippi, and at the Capps Crisis Stabilization Unit where I had the opportunity to practice theoretical interventions, talk therapy, and many other techniques to help individuals with issues and disorders ranging from mild to extremely severe. The responses an untrained person can give to be helpful can be risky. Confidentiality, respect, honest, and responsibility are the cornerstone of professional counseling and my mission is to honor those tenets. My first goal when meeting someone is to allow them to get to know me and see that I am trustworthy, friendly, and interested in them. I do not look for problems but I ask that they share with me as much detail as they can as we talk and make reachable goals to meet their specific n
