About Riley Strom
Before describing my academic credentials, I want you to get to know me as a fellow human who wants to walk with you through this journey of discovery and growth. Why does this matter? During our work together, I’m asking you to become vulnerable and share some of your deepest stories and emotions with me in order to help you work through the issue(s) that caused you to reach out to me.
My passion in counselling is to create a relationship built on safety, trust, and hope, where people feel accepted and challenged to grow in new and meaningful ways. I consider it a privilege to be able to walk with someone through their fears, challenges, and hurts, and help them experiencing healing and restoration. For this reason, I see counselling as an opportunity to help people diminish pain and suffering, cope with the challenges of life (both normal and extraordinary), and experience increased joy, purpose, and self-acceptance.
My training as a therapist enables me to journey skillfully with people through a variety of struggles including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, self-esteem/harm, life transitions, and body image. I do, however, have advanced skills and training in the areas of trauma - particularly sexual violence, and marriage and relationship therapy. My therapeutic approaches involves incorporating attachment work, cognitive-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, various trauma and body-based therapies, EMDR, Lifespan Integration, OEI, mindfulness, and meaning and insight based therapies. However, I tailor my approach based on the specific goals and strengths of the client, so that each person experiences therapy that is a good fit for them. All the therapy I do is evidence-based and is designed to be empowering, with a focus on de-pathologizing the person.
In meeting with clients, it is my deep desire that each person can move toward hope, healing, and living life as their most authentic self.
