About Peter Addy
If you are interested in transcendence, wholeness, and transformation, please reach out to me!
I am passionate about helping people create healthy relationships with themselves, their bodies, and their world. I love seeing people learn new ways to live with meaning.
As your therapist, I will take my time with you, allowing myself to be with you and see you as a whole person. Your immediate lived experience, and my own, are the data that drive my understanding and treatment planning. I find it best to form a concept of the entire person, rather than a list of symptoms. By focusing on your mind, body, and spirit I can avoid confining labels. I also focus on how you experience the present moment. Rather than focusing solely on past trauma or future plans, I focus on how you experience traumatic memories in the present, and how your thinking about the future affects you right now. This present orientation is key. My training and experience have helped me develop an appreciation for mindfulness and building awareness. Clients who are present are more aware of what they need in order to grow and heal.
I focused my PhD in clinical psychology on non-ordinary states of consciousness, holistic and all-encompassing views of a person, and ways that these experiences can transform a person and society. Throughout my training I have focused on cognitive-behavioral, process-oriented, and existential therapies. I also discovered a passion for data management and security which I bring with me to my online therapy practice. From my perspective, discussing mental health usually includes discussing meaning and Ultimate Purpose.
I have specific experience and trainings working with open relationships and non-monogamy, psychedelic harm reduction and integration, sex and kink positivity, 12-step philosophy, vegans, and veterans. I have studied numerous religions and faith traditions in graduate school as part of an overall training in spiritual psychology.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington (LH60851067) and a Licensed Professional Counselor intern in Oregon (R5278). My pronouns are He/Him.
