About John Beninato

We all face challenges in life and they can be overwhelming if not downright defeating. Navigating these challenges can be complex and difficult without support. My approach as a therapist is to meet you where you are in your life and offer a non-judgmental and compassionate space to identify and work toward your therapeutic goals. I strive to instill a spirit of hope and encouragement that change and growth are possible. Through the therapeutic process, we will identify and develop ways to navigate the obstacles that are impacting your well-being. I utilize a collaborative approach to foster an environment to help you recognize and build upon your strengths. From my perspective, the most important and powerful element in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. It is this relationship that allows growth to happen so that you can make positive changes in your life. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with people with a wide range of disability diagnoses including mental health diagnoses. I also have experience working with young professionals, people identifying as LGBTQ+, and people navigating anxiety and depression. My passion for working in this field began when I started my B.A. in Psychology at The University of Connecticut. Since completing my degree, I have worked in a mix of clinical and research settings including the University of Kentucky, Rutgers University, and around New York and New Jersey. I completed my M.S. in rehabilitation counseling at Rutgers University and currently hold a license as a mental health counselor (LMHC) in New York State.
