About Irina Adams
I am a licensed therapist and for the last ten years I’ve helped people regain a sense of safety and joy after their lives were hijacked by disturbing life experiences, such as war trauma, combat stress, grief and loss, sexual assault, developmental trauma, childhood abuse, and domestic/family/community violence. I provide in-person and online (video) individual psychotherapy, couples’ therapy, pre-marital counseling as well as assertiveness training and career coaching. Depression, anxiety, stress and trauma-related disorders, grief/loss, parental skills, relationship and marital discord, military/veterans and women’s issues are some of the problems I specialize in my practice. My treatment style is rooted in psychodynamic and client-centered approaches with a focus on building trust and authentic rapport and addressing my client’s unique concerns.
To help people find balance, self-compassion and reclaim their lives from the grips of trauma I use therapy approaches that best address their unique needs. These include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) (a fancy term for a highly effective trauma treatments with an 80% success rate), psychodynamic, CBT, CPT, and Gottman Couples Therapy. I am a certified and registered Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) provider (EMDRIA Member ID 430818230) and am licensed to practice psychotherapy in the state of Texas and in the state of North Carolina. An experiences US Air Force clinician and veteran, I’m keenly attuned to the unique needs of military members, veterans, first responders and helping-professionals, and how issues related to military trauma, burnout, compassion fatigue, survivor guilt and family reintegration can affect their well-being.
Our life tends to get busy and overwhelming, with many things standing on the way of giving yourself the gift of self-compassion - therapy. With multiple pressing priorities and competing responsibilities, we often feel that we don’t have a choice but to put it off. That's why I provide individual couples’ therapy, pre-marital counseling as well as assertiveness training and career coaching in person and ONLINE. ONLINE therapy (also called internet counseling, e-counseling, tele-medicine, telehealth or video counseling) offers you the CHOICE, FLEXIBILITY and CONVENIENCE without spreading yourself thin, fighting busy traffic and the hassle of trying to fit it into your schedule.
