About Sarah Rathbun
Hi, my name is Sarah! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA) in the state of North Carolina. I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. In being a young woman of mixed race, I seek to help clients develop a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves and others. I have a particular interest in working with college students in helping them strengthen their sense of self. My clinical experience includes working with teens, adults, couples, and people from diverse backgrounds.
I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method for couples, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I enjoy working with couples, individuals, teens, and families with a focus on developing more fulfilling and healthier relationships. I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, spirituality concerns, decision-making, life transitions, career concerns, and self-esteem issues. I work with couples and families to improve communication problems, recurrent relational conflict, emotional disturbance, and life transitions.
I use an integrated approach in working towards overall growth, wellness, and more satisfying personal relationships. I use evidence-based approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as other effective models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the Gottman Method. I have a collaborative style in which I help guide and support you as the client, leading or following based on your specific needs. I seek to create a safe and welcoming environment in which you can feel heard, seen, understood, and validated for the strengths and value that you possess.
I offer in-person as well as virtual counseling sessions. Please check with your insurance company which option is covered if you would like to use insurance or choose private pay.
