About J.D. Moorehead

I have been a mental health professional (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) for 20 years. I work with many different types of clients, including children (ages 10 and older), adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I enjoy my work, because I find it inspiring to help people find a way through difficult life circumstances, feel better, and live life to its fullest. I am the father of three children, so I understand the challenges and difficulties of parenting at all ages of development. I have been met with difficulties in my own life, so I know what it feels like to go through emotional pain. I would describe my “style” as eclectic. Although I was trained as a psychodynamic therapist (looking deeply at childhood experiences, previous relationships, unconscious thoughts and how those things impact current problems), I have become open to new approaches over the years. I have my own unique style, which varies with each client that I work with. I am not an “advice-giver.” I believe that being in therapy is a journey to self-awareness, change, and (ultimately) healing from psychological pain. I am simply a partner in that journey. A “guide,” so to speak. I will never tell you what to do. But I definitely will help you discover the answers for yourself. I value providing a safe, warm, comfortable environment for my clients. I am in solo practice, and my office is very private. Rarely will you encounter another client in my waiting room, because I am extremely punctual (you will have left before the next person arrives). Most of all, I believe that I am an easy person to talk to and explore difficult issues with. I am kind, caring, and thoughtful. I really listen and reflect during every session. I know that engaging in therapy can be a difficult process, and I respect anyone with the courage to do it. But I know that it can be life-changing, and the best journey that anyone can ever take.
