About Janet Savia

I enjoy working with men and women of all ages, and from diverse backgrounds.  I recognize the courage required to enter therapy and I believe it is important to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment for men and women to do this important work.  My clinical interests include issues surrounding:  mood, anxiety, stress, gender and relationship challenges, self-esteem, medical illness/injury, life transitions and adjustments, loss and grief, responses to trauma, and suicide.

Traumatic experiences can turn your world upside down in an instant. I have extensive experience working with people in the immediate aftermath of traumatic experiences as well as those who have been unable to address their painful experience for decades. I am also privileged to work closely with men and women in health care, EMS/fire services, military, law enforcement and the clergy to address the unique stresses associated with these professions. This also includes family members of individuals working in these professions.

I have done considerable work with men and women diagnosed with terminal illness, life-threatening illness or injury, life-altering illness or injury, and individuals undergoing difficult medical treatments. I also work with individual family members as they grapple with changes resulting from a loved one’s illness or injury.

I believe strongly in giving back to my community, so in addition to my professional association involvement, I serve on the faculty for Fire Chaplain 101; am an active member of the Triangle Critical Incident Stress Management team; volunteer with Duke Hospice; and, am a mental health team member for Cornucopia Cancer Support Center.  I am also a trained Stephen Minister and Stephen Ministry Leader.
