I was initially trained in the field of the Presbyterian clergy, and later in the clinical field of psychotherapy. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with specialization in marriage and family counseling, work with terminally ill adults and youth, and grief therapy. My intervention style would best be described as conversational and interactive. I believe the most helpful "clinicians" are those who actually listen; who assist in the 'navigation of conflict' rather than simply pointing out pathways for 'escape from pain.' Emotional pain is a call for us to listen, not simply to 'cut out' the source or voice of conflict.
While real Growth is complicated...some people "do" suffering better than healing.
Healing however, is always a better option than staying in pain.
