About John Ballew

I help people who are feeling overwhelmed get back on track.  I assist young adults anxious about work or life and who need support and tools to move ahead.  Clients of all ages may be going through challenges or life transitions that show up as anxiety or depression or just feeling stuck.

I also work with individuals and couples who are stuck in relationship patterns that no longer work for them.

I’m knowledgeable about a variety of techniques such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapy, but I use a variety of approaches to helping my clients.

As you might expect from my location in the heart of Atlanta, my clients are a diverse group of men and women.  I strive to be an anti-racist therapist responsive to the needs of Black clients and other people of color.  As a gay man I strongly support empowerment of women.  LGBTQ concerns are a special focus of mine; you have the right to expect your therapist to be comfortable and knowledgeable about your concerns.

I’ve been in private practice in Atlanta for more than 30 years. I work out of comfortable and tranquil home office in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood.  (I also offer video sessions if that’s more convenient.)  My clients find me engaged, supportive and nonjudgmental.

Whether you’ve made use of counseling and therapy before or are seeking a counselor for the first time, I welcome questions you might have about working together.  Let’s get started.
