About Beth Baldwin

My approach to therapy is pragmatic: beginning with identifying and clarifying the goals for therapy and using cognitive behavioral counseling to work toward those goals. In working with children, adolescents, and families, there is frequently an emphasis on effective parenting, helping young people to advocate for themselves in appropriate ways, and negotiating win/win situations among family members. I also very much appreciate the opportunity to work with adults who are dealing with changes in their lives. During therapy, important issues from the past may arise whose thoughtful consideration helps build insight, new skills, and peace of mind. I support my clients with empathy, compassion, and humor.

I grew up in Lexington, attended Lexington Schools and graduated from LHS, as did my mother. I haven't lived my whole life in Lexington; there was a 20 year gap that included living in such exotic and far flung places as Athens, London, New York, New Hampshire, and getting married in New Zealand to a Kiwi. During those wander years, I taught Middle School and High School Science, went to business school, worked in advertising, twice been a church deacon, moved a lot, built a small business, and with my husband raised three children. These experiences inform the worldview that I bring to understanding my clients; young and old, as individuals and as family members. By choosing to become a professional psychotherapist and counselor, I have returned to my first love, Psychology, in which I earned a BA from Middlebury College and later an MA from Lesley University.
