About Barbara Hanson

Barbara believes in a collaborative approach that is based on client strengths and resiliency. The therapeutic process is constructed to develop effective coping techniques and strategies with the stressors of today's crisis. This framework supports the clients in learning how to create a coping and skills toolbox to meet the challenges of life today and in the future.
 

Barbara specializes in providing Life Transition support, grief, loss, and substance abuse counseling for men and women.  As a Tricare Certified Mental Health Counselor, Barbara provided experience and dedication to the National Veterans Center in collaboration with the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing to serve Veterans, Service Members, and their families.

As a counselor at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing in the RECOVER program, Barbara worked with families through the process of identifying a loved one. RECOVER is a collaborative program with the District of Columbia Medical Examiners Office.

Barbara has experience working in the Addictions Recovery field in residential settings for men and women. She has provided individual and group counseling addressing substance abuse issues.

Barbara's training as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Addictions Counselor II provides the experience, clinical skills, and compassion to work with each individual at his or her pace and address issues that each client defines as most important to their quality of life.
