About Robin Shultz

Relationships make the world go 'round. Whether personal, professional, or romantic, the relationships we have with others can either make or break us if we let them. In order to better manage our relationships with others, we need to learn first, how to effectively manage ourselves within the relationship.

My work is primarily with individuals, couples, and parents wanting to be more effective in their relationships. One way to achieve this is to look closer at how our own interactions impact our relationships. It’s easy in relationships to become entrenched in patterns of avoidance, conflict, or blaming on the one hand, or people-pleasing, placating, or performing on the other. Often, we function for others when they are fully capable of managing for themselves. While this can maintain harmony, there is often a cost involved to the relationship over the long run. Couples experience this cost when they find themselves either “going through the motions” or in a relationship crises. Parents experience it when their children begin to resist engagement in the age-appropriate tasks of self-determination, self-responsibility, and individuation, or worse yet, outright rebellion, self-sabotage, or self-harm.

No matter your situation, finding new ways to resolve problems can be life changing.  Seemingly insurmountable hurdles can be overcome when a broader view and a different approach are taken. My background and training in systems therapy can offer you a fresh perspective on yourself, your relationships, and your life as you begin to take steps in new directions.
