About Jesse Matthews

I've been a licensed psychologist since 2013 and have worked in mental health since 2000. I have a private practice in Chester Springs, PA, where I have been seeing clients since 2014. Although I had occasionally seen clients online, the COVID-19 pandemic forced me to do so exclusively, as it had with most other therapists. I found that I enjoy working with people through this medium, and I have recognized that it offers many benefits. If you are reading this, I probably don't have to explain them, but on a personal note I'll add that I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with clients I would not have been able to before, mostly due to their lack of proximity to my office. And with the expansion of telehealth (offerings, usage, and insurance coverage) during the pandemic, this also gave people much wider access to therapists than they have ever had. It has been proven over the past year that telehealth is effective, and it's my belief that everyone should have access to the care they need, regardless of where they live. And that is why I am here, because I plan to continue offering this service well into the future. Over the years I have worked in a variety of settings, with young children through older adults, but I have found that I really prefer to work with adults- from young adult, to those in their 30s or 40s, and beyond. At any given time my clients are 80% men, though I work with women as well. I most enjoy helping people with issues like depression, self-esteem, alcohol/substance use issues, relationships, career concerns, and life transitions. I offer an integrative style of therapy, with empathy, non-judgment, humor when appropriate, and sensitivity. At the same time I strive not to sugarcoat things and to be as real with people as possible. I work to help people to identify or talk about what is most important to them, what they want out of their lives, and what they need to do or change in order to make that happen. I love what I do and I respect and admire anyone with the courage to reach out for help.
