Hi! Thank you for being here! I am so glad you found this small space on the internet. I am April Brown, licensed marriage and family therapist, located in Miami, Florida.
Originally born in England, I moved to Miami, Florida with my family in elementary school. I am the eldest daughter in a multicultural, multi-religion, blended family. My love for science and focus on evidence based practice led me to study Neuroscience in my undergraduate school, University of Miami. With thoughts of going to medical school, I discovered that my true passion was working with clients and supporting them in their emotional-social well being. It was this discovery that led me to pursue my masters and doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy.
I realized that the basis of our happiness is having a good relationship with ourselves and with others. It is something we don’t emphasis enough and that is often overlooked in wellness and health.
As someone who has struggled with anxiety myself, first as a child and then as a teenager, I know the power and healing nature of therapy. Even as an adult today, I follow certain strategies and establish boundaries in my life in order to manage my journey with anxiety. Know you are not alone. Nearly 40 million American suffer with anxiety.
My mental health journey continued when I became a mother. As a mother, I struggled during my pregnancy and postpartum with the many changes my body went through and the nerves and anxiety that came with a challenging pregnancy, traumatic birth and being a new mom. It was during this time that I leaned on the relationships in my life to support my physical and mental health. It was also during my pregnancy and postpartum period that I fully learned the need for more support for new moms and parents.
