About Alison Murphey

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me...I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I have been working in the field for more than 12 years and have much experience in treating areas of Depression, Anxiety, stage of life transitions, trauma/complex trauma, addiction as well as other areas of concern. Over my career I have worked for both Non-Profit organizations, residential treatment programs for teens and in-patient addiction treatment centers prior to beginning my work in my own private practice. As a therapist I believe in providing the utmost respect, care and compassion for each individual I treat. I am highly engaged in treatment and believe in helping everyone both work through roadblocks that may have you feeling stuck as well as building a healthy tool box of skills to cope with all of life’s challenges. I work from an eclectic perspective and use different therapeutic tools to help each individual that I work with. I believe in empowering each person in my care and providing a supportive and understanding dynamic to help in coping with different life transitions and struggles. I most often use skills from the Cognitive Behavioral perspective, but do pull from many different theories and perspectives. I am an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) trained therapist and often use the tool in practice to help individuals combat experiences of trauma, panic, phobia and anxiety. I also hold certification as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and use that skill set along with my knowledge and use of EMDR to help many of my client’s address unhealthy thought patterns about themselves, increase healthy cognitive (thought) patterns, confront patterns of trauma in their lives and work through present stressors and triggers. I wish you well on this journey and hope that whether you work with myself or someone else you are able find the peace and recovery you so deserve. Please ask about sliding scale options for treatment.
