About Ingrid Ponciano

Ingrid Ponciano is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in Maryland. She obtained her Master's degree in Couples and Family Therapy from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. During her internship, Mrs. Ponciano garnered experience working with various populations. She worked with Children at the Child psychiatry outpatient unit in Philadelphia. She also worked in the medical setting performing Medical Family therapy at the Oncology Unit in Hahnemann Hospital. Mrs. Ponciano worked in a community setting at Crosswinds Mental Health Center in Emporia, Kansas. After obtaining her clinical License, Mrs. Ponciano opened her private practice servicing the population of Emporia, KS. In her private practice, Mrs. Ponciano served individuals, families, and couples ranging from ages 10 to 75 years. At the same time, she worked as a counselor at Emporia State University where she gained extensive experience working with teenagers and young adults in the area of career and academic counseling as well as treating a variety of mental health issues. In 2017, Mrs. Ponciano relocated back to Maryland, her hometown. Her private practice opened in September of 2017. Mrs. Ponciano specializes in couples counseling, using the Gottman Method. Her years of experience helping individuals, families, and couples who encounter challenges in everyday life situations, guide her practice and her philosophy. Mrs. Ponciano works from a strength-based approach that empowers clients and their families to find solutions to their problems. She guides clients that are struggling to communicate with partners, are unhappy at their job, stressing about finances, adjusting to a new baby at home, and/or having family problems. When working with individuals, she uses Cognitive Behavioral approach to challenge clients in changing unhelpful thoughts, improving emotional regulation, and developing coping techniques. Mrs. Ponciano is also a parent coordinator, who helps parents make healthy decisions about their children. She strongly believes in offering parents a safe environment to talk about better arrangements for the family and the best interest of the children. Lastly, Mrs. Ponciano is an approved supervisor in the state of Maryland, She has experience supervising interns in the area of Mental Health Counseling and Art therapy. Her clinical experience, training and supervisor designation qualify her to supervise Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists.
