About Charles Laurel

Being alive in the 21st century is amazing, surely unlike anything that our ancestors experienced, in both stresses and opportunities. We can have a conversation about what it is like for you, trying to live up to your deepest held values in the face of real challenges. I start with the assumption that you have what it takes to move more fully into a vibrant, meaningful life, even during times of great uncertainty. Sometimes life presents challenges that seem overwhelming. Seeking help is a sign of strength in such times. In recent years, psychology has come around to confirm the insights of ancient wisdom traditions, like Buddhism, that the mind's natural inclination to avoid discomfort and maximize immediate pleasure very often compounds suffering, in lots of sneaky ways. Sometimes it takes a different kind of conversation to get unstuck from habits of mind and behavior. I bring a skill set from thirty years of Buddhist practice along with training using ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I'll be with you, listening compassionately, and suggesting practices that shift how you relate to your thoughts and emotions. Sometimes just a few sessions can make a difference.
