About Sarah McClelland

Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She graduated from The University of Virginia in 1996 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in psychology. There, she worked at the Mary Ainsworth Virginia Study of Teens and Families, a longitudinal study of attachment. She then worked with emotionally disturbed adolescents in a residential treatment program where she dedicated her life for 7 years. While working in this capacity, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University part-time and graduated with her Masters In Social Work in 2002. Since then, Sarah has served in various roles including a psychiatric crisis clinician in both community and hospital settings as well as a clinician in private practice. Additionally, she has managed a team of clinicians providing case management services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Sarah has a passion for working with new mothers, attachment, parenting issues, teenagers, and working mothers with children. She is trauma informed and enjoys working with individuals coping with stress, depression, anxiety, and high achievers that have difficulty finding a work/life balance. Sarah uses compassion focused, strength based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She gets excited about helping others become attuned to their own self-care and the potential they have for being "their own best friend."
