About Tammy Kirschner

I help individuals who are struggling to cope with overwhelming emotions that are interfering with their ability to function in their daily roles and routines. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of New York and a have been a psychotherapist for over 30 years. While originally trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, over the years I incorporated CBT, behavioral therapies and DBT into my practice. Every client is unique and I strongly believe that no single therapy is appropriate for all clients. In 2010, I received the Intensive Training in DBT. I specialize in working with young adults and adults who struggle with chronic depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, low self-esteem, and individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, and those who engage in self-injurious behaviors. I have worked in a variety of clinical setting over the last 35 years including college counseling centers, an outsourced EAP program, an outpatient psychology group working exclusively with anxiety/panic/phobias, an inpatient psychiatric hospital on two units and of course, my own private practice. I was also a career consultant with downsized employees for two large Outplacement Firms for 15 years and recently received my Life Coaching Certification. Trust and rapport are the foundations of a strong working therapeutic relationship. I provide support and validation, and a safe, compassionate, creative and warm style of interacting. I am passionately committed to my clients, helping them develop the coping skills needed to alleviate their emotional distress.
