About Maysie Tift

People have always told me I am a good listener and easy to talk to, and as a result, I think my clients become comfortable with me quickly. The style of therapy I use depends to some extent on the client's issue(s) and what style they seem most responsive to. I do my best to balance practical support and concrete problem-solving with deeper psychological exploration of self and relationship patterns. I believe therapy should be an interactive, collaborative process, and I know that most clients want a therapist who will do more than just listen. I offer my reactions, tools, and feedback - but ultimately, I respect you, my client, as the authority on your own life. You know yourself best, and my job is to help you access your own wisdom, values, and best qualities to make wise choices and improve your quality of life. I take our work together seriously, but I like to laugh with my clients too. Sharing humor can be a part of developing our connection. I help clients address worthwhile goals such as: increasing joy and life satisfaction; increasing emotional self-awareness and self-expression; accessing calm and decreasing stress; exploring the use of nutrition/supplements to reduce mental health symptoms; shedding unhelpful beliefs and habits; all kinds of relationship concerns; recovering from a breakup/divorce; & improving one's relationship with food or alcohol. I am fascinated by people's stories and the unique ways each person rises to the challenges in their lives. I am LGBTQIQ-friendly. I am engaging in readings and groups to increase my competence to work with clients of color by exploring my own unconscious biases, my whiteness, and my priviledge.
