James Marrugo, MA, LPCC

My name is James Marrugo, Owner of Morning Coffee Counseling LLC, and thank you for visiting this page to learn more about me. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, and I started my private practice so that I can use my skills and knowledge to help others live the life they want. I once lived a life that was a lie. I worked jobs I did not want, made friends with people who I did not like, and studied topics that others told me to. One day, I woke up and realized I’m miserable. I learned that people often go to therapy confused and struggling between what they should be doing and what they want to be doing. The goal of talking to me is to get you closer to what you want out of life. It is my desire to help every person create a roadmap to success by being more authentic and honest with who they are deep down inside. It is easy to fall into a trap of making everyone around us happy and lie to ourselves every day that the life people believe we should have, is the life we want. I found a passion to help others achieve happiness through honesty by first being honest with myself, and I bring this honesty into every session. I am not the type of therapist to sit across from you and only say things you want to hear. I want to have an honest conversation with you which requires me to be blunt at times, but I do so with respect, acceptance, and compassion. My role as your therapist is to shine a light into the blind spots of your life so that we can discover the tools you need to build a happy and successful future. I hold a BA in Psychology from Metropolitan State University of Denver since 2016 and a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regis University since 2020. I use an integrative approach to therapy by utilizing Gestalt Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Multicultural Counseling. I have clinical experience in general mental health, addiction, trauma, co-occurring disorders, personality disorders, and sex traffic victims.
