About Thomas Stewart

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts with four years of non-degree post-graduate training in family therapy theory and practice including two years with Salvador Minuchin, MD a prolific author and founder in the field.  I am a highly trained therapist having much experience in supportively working with individuals and families that are dealing with a wide array of mental health issues and related challenges in children, adolescents and adults including, but not limited to,  learning disabilities, alcohol and substance abuse, depression, anxiety, ADHD, challenges in parenting and navigating the special education process. I have qualified as an expert witness and have trained therapists and graduate students in family therapy theory and practice. In recently years I have been focused and committed to supporting families with children who have learning disabilities and/or special needs.  I have completed the Parent Consultant Training class at the Federation for Children with Special Needs and have been committed to extensive volunteer service. I am currently serving on the Massachusetts Special Education Advisory Panel and Massachusetts IEP Improvement Project.  Mr. Stewart was also identified as a stakeholder in the Dyslexia screening legislation having lobbied and supported the soon to be implemented dyslexia screening laws in Massachusetts.  I have also served as a Special Education Parent Advisory Council Chair, a Board Member at the Children’s Dyslexia Center, Church Moderator, Safe Church Committee member, Church Stewardship Team member, coached youth sports at a variety of levels, and, has been an activist and advocate for people with disabilities for over 37 years. I have always been supportive of the LGBT community. I believe the therapeutic process is best when there is a mutually respectful dialogue and relationship. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
